What happens if the battery dies while I am out?

On a well-chosen lock, nothing dramatic: it warns you for weeks first, and it keeps a mechanical key override or an external power contact for the day you ignore all the warnings. On a badly chosen lock, you are locked out of your own house. Which lock you have is decided at purchase, not at 11pm.

Can a smart lock go on my existing door?

Often yes, and often as a retrofit that keeps your existing hardware and only changes the cylinder. It depends on the door thickness, the backset and whether it is timber, aluminium or glass. This is the one question worth answering before buying anything.

Are keypad locks a good idea on a shared entrance?

Usually not. A code shared with everyone who has ever lived in the building is not access control, it is a doorbell. Shared entries are better served by fobs or a restricted key system where access can be withdrawn from one person without changing anything for everyone else.

Do you install locks I bought myself?

Yes, and we will tell you honestly if what you bought does not suit the door before we cut anything. That conversation is much cheaper before installation than after.
