Car Lockouts
A car lockout is the one job where a few minutes genuinely matters — a running engine, a hot car, or a child or pet inside changes everything about how it is handled. It is also a job where the wrong approach damages a door skin, a weather seal or an airbag sensor.
+61-3-9007-2696What this covers
- Keys locked inside the cabin
- Keys locked in the boot
- Engine left running
- Child or pet locked inside — treated as urgent
- Non-destructive opening
- Broken key removed from a door or ignition
Before you call
Have the make, model and year ready, and know roughly where the car is. Those three things decide what equipment the van needs on board, and getting them on the phone is the difference between one visit and two.
You will also be asked to prove the vehicle is yours — photo ID and registration papers, or the car registered in your name. There is no version of this work where that step is skipped.
Car Lockouts
Tell us the make, model and year and where the car is parked.
Car Lockouts — questions
There is a child or a pet in the car. What should I do?
Call 000 first, then call us. On a hot day that is not caution, it is the correct order. Emergency services can force entry immediately if they judge it necessary, and no lock is worth the alternative.
Will you damage the door?
Not in normal circumstances. Modern vehicles are opened with tools designed for them, and door skins, seals and side-airbag sensors are exactly why this is worth not attempting with a coat hanger.
The engine is running and the doors locked themselves.
That is a common and genuinely urgent situation, and it is treated as one. Tell us on the phone that the car is running.
