How we work

Everything happens where the lock is. There is no shop, no counter and nothing for you to drop off — the key machines, the cylinders and the tools travel in the van, which is also why there is no closing time to work around.

No prices are published on this site, deliberately: a real figure depends on the hardware, the door, the time of day and where you are, and a number on a web page would be wrong more often than it was right. What we will do is tell you on the phone what is likely, and confirm it in person before anything is touched.

Lock Installation — questions

Can you fit a lock to a door that has never had one?

Usually. It means cutting the door and the frame, so we want to see the door first — solid timber, hollow core, aluminium and glass doors all take different hardware, and the wrong choice on a hollow-core door tears out the first time somebody leans on it.

Do I have to buy the lock beforehand?

No, and we would rather you did not. The van carries the common hardware, and buying the lock separately usually means finding out on the day that it does not suit the door.

How long does a lock replacement take?

A like-for-like swap is typically a short visit. A new installation, or a change of lock type, takes longer because the door and frame have to be cut and the strike aligned. We will give you a realistic time when we see the door.

Will a new lock help with my insurance?

It can, but that is between you and your insurer, and we will not tell you what your policy says. What we can do is fit hardware that meets a recognised standard and tell you exactly what was installed, so you have something concrete to give them.
