What the model actually changes
A locksmith with a shopfront has to staff it, and a staffed counter has opening hours. That works perfectly well until 11pm on a Sunday — which, as it happens, is when a good share of lock problems occur.
Removing the shop removes that constraint. The key machines, the cylinder stock, the programming equipment and the tools all live in the van, so the work happens where the lock is. No trip for you, no second visit for a part, and no closing time to work around.
It also changes what we can promise about arrival. Rather than dispatching from one address, vans work circuits across the city — which is why, when you ring, you should be told which suburb the nearest one is in rather than a single number that would be identical whether you were in Southbank or Craigieburn.
Three things we will not do
Publish a price. Not a range, not a “from”, not a headline figure. You will get a real number on the phone and it will be confirmed before anything is touched.
Open anything without checking you are entitled to it. Every job, every time, no exceptions. Photo ID and evidence of your right to the property or the vehicle. It is not bureaucracy — it is the only thing standing between anybody's front door and a stranger with the right tools.
Reach for a drill before trying to open it intact. Non-destructive entry is faster and leaves you with a working lock. Where a lock genuinely cannot be opened that way, you hear it before work starts rather than after.
What we work on
Homes, businesses and vehicles. Emergency lockouts, rekeying and key cutting, lock installation and repair, smart and electronic locks, master key and restricted key systems, access control, safes, security doors and window locks, and work for strata managers and property managers.
Car keys are handled as a separate discipline rather than a bullet point, because cutting and programming a transponder or proximity key has almost nothing in common with a house lock.

About Fix Mate — questions
Where are you based?
Nowhere you can visit, and that is the point. Fix Mate is a service-area business: the vans are the workshop, and they are distributed across Melbourne rather than parked at one address. There is no counter, no showroom and no trading hours.
Why are there no prices on the site?
Because any number published here would be wrong more often than it was right. What a job costs depends on the hardware, the door or the vehicle, the hour and where you are. Competitors who publish a headline figure are quoting the cheapest possible version of the job, and the number a customer actually pays is rarely that one. You get a real figure on the phone and it is confirmed before work starts.
Why is there no licence number on the site?
Because we will not publish a credential we cannot evidence. When there is a verified registration number to show, it will appear in the footer. Until then its absence is the honest state of affairs — and it is worth noting that almost none of the established Melbourne locksmiths publish one either.
Why are there no reviews or star ratings?
For the same reason. Fix Mate is new, and a review section on a new site is either real or it is decoration. Ours will appear when there are genuine ones to show, and they will come from a Google Business Profile where anybody can check them.
Do you work on weekends and public holidays?
Yes, at the same rates structure as any other out-of-hours call, which you will be told before work starts. Locks do not observe public holidays and neither does the roster.
