Car Key Cutting

Cutting a car key is not the same as cutting a house key. Modern vehicle keys use milled or laser-cut profiles that need a machine built for them, and the cut is only half the job — the chip inside still has to be accepted by the car.

Car Key Cutting

Make, model and year gets you a faster answer.

No obligation, and no price is quoted until someone has seen the lock.

What this covers

  • Laser-cut and milled keys
  • Cutting to code where the key is lost
  • Duplicating an existing working key
  • Key blades for remote and proximity fobs
  • Motorcycle and trailer keys
  • Cutting done on site, not sent away

Before you call

Have the make, model and year ready, and know roughly where the car is. Those three things decide what equipment the van needs on board, and getting them on the phone is the difference between one visit and two.

You will also be asked to prove the vehicle is yours — photo ID and registration papers, or the car registered in your name. There is no version of this work where that step is skipped.

Car Key Cutting — questions

Can you cut a key without the original?

In most cases yes, by reading the vehicle's own locks or cutting to code. It is more work than copying an existing key but it does not require a tow.

Is a cut key enough on its own?

Only on older vehicles with no immobiliser. On anything with a transponder, a perfectly cut key will turn the lock and the car still will not start until the chip is programmed. Both halves get done in the same visit.

Do you cut keys for motorbikes?

Yes, and for trailers, vans and light trucks. Tell us the make and model when you call so the right blank is on board.
